Biography

Moving on

Patrick cycles past his home in Selsey

The only other normal job Patrick has had was a short spell as the director of the Armagh Planetarium (Northern Ireland) between 1965 and 1968, after which he moved to Selsey, Sussex.

Eclipse hunting is a particular favourite of Patrick's, and he has chased down seven over the years in places such as the former Yugoslavia, the Philippines and the middle of the Caribbean.

Patrick has kept extremely busy during his illustrious career and has now written over a hundred different books, all on his 1908 Woodstock typewriter, which is still pounded furiously, albeit at a slightly slower speed than his previous ninety words a minute.

The vast majority of books produced have been about astronomy, but he has also written boys' novels and interesting takes on the human condition in books such as "Can you speak Venusian".
